June 19-20th Vietnam
On the 19th we took our time gettting up, had breakfast at the hotel, and then packed up. We only had a few hours to drive to get to Phong Nha. Due to our detour the previous day we had to cut back across the state. It was a pleasant drive. The roads were nice and there was little traffic. We also drove through Phong Nha National Park towards the end of the drive. We checked into our hotel and then walked to Bamboo Cafe for some lunch. Then we drove out of town to The Duck Pond. This little gem was run by children and very well I might add. First they showed us how to eat peanuts, peppercorns, and flavored salt together. Then we played with tiny puppies. After that they herded us up and we headed to the ducks. It was amusing the production they did. The ducks ate out of our hands and feet, which felt crazy weird. They had us do a duck king act. We made a wish and threw a duck in a pong. Then we went to the ducklings. Sadly, they had us feed the ducks so they would fall down a slide. Off to ride Donald Trump, the water buffalo. I never thought this would be on our list of things we'v done. It was an interesting experience. We opted out of the food they offered since we just ate and headed back to town. We went to Paradise Pizza for a late dinner. On the 20th we woke up early, had breakfast at the hotel, and then walked to the boat dock. We paid for our longboat and headed to the Phong Nha Cave. There were hoards of boats heading in the same direction. The cave was quit impressive. We drove through it on our boat. We hopped off on the last portion and walked through the end. Then we headed back to the hotel. We ate at Bamboo Cafe again for dinner.
