We woke up at 8 AM to go buy our ticket to hike the trails in Tierra del Fuego National Park. We hiked the Costera trail. It was beautiful with clear blue green waters, moss covered trees, and a mountain range for the backdrop. We had the place to ourselves, which added to the beauty. When we were a good hour in Bart suggested we check out a small peninsula jutting into the water. He told me he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He got on one knee and proposed. I said absolutely! It was the perfect place and time. After taking in the moment for a while we got back on the trail. When we got back to the truck we headed back into town. We made some phone calls to our closest family and friends to tell them the good news. Then we picked up a few groceries and went to lunch at Cafe Bar Banana. We met Pira tour company at 2:30 for the penguin tour. After a 45 minute ride we stopped at a museum in the middle of nowhere. It was filled with real skeletons of animals, mostly sea animals. Biologists work here to preserve them for study. It was pretty cool. Then we took a 10 minte boat ride to the island filled with penguins. It was absolutely amazing! We have never seen penguins in the wild before. We never though we would be walking among them. We saw three kinds: king, gentoo, and magellanic. There was also one albino penguin. We walked among them for an hour, the guide only answering the questions you asked. One penguin even attached Bart's shoe. Then we took the boat ride back. The driver spotted a humpback whale and sped after it. There were 2! The crew was right there with the tourists taking photos and videos because it is a rare occurrence to see them. They were right next to the boat. We could even see in their blow hole. What an experience! Then we enjoyed some tea and hot chocolate at their cafe. Once we got back to town we went to Viejo Marina, a highly recommended place for cheap crab. We waited for over an hour to be seated. We met some drunk Brazilian men while we waited. We ordered sauteed crab, shrimp, mussels, and calamari to start. Then we each got a pile of fresh crab. It may have been the best seafood we have ever had. And so cheap, which makes it even better. We drove back to Tierra del Fuego National Park and stayed in the same spot as the prior night. It was a truly amazing day and I will never forget it! We love the end of the world and will likely return someday.
